FEATURE: Reading of Sai Satcharitha

Several books and literature on Sr Saibaba are available for Sai devotees. Foremost of that is Sri Sai Satcharitha written by Annasaheb Dabholkar. Prior to Sai Satcharitha, a few essays, poetry and articles, including those by Dasganu Maharaj, were written on Sri Saibaba while he was physically present in Shirdi. B V Narasimha Swamy wrote extensively on Sri
Saibaba and his devotees shedding light on many aspects of Sri Saibaba and his relationship with his devotees, who he called Children, hitherto unknown. Many books have been published on Saibaba by various authors.

Sri Sai Satcharitha assumes a special place in Sai devotees lives as Sri Saibaba himself was aware of the attempt by Dabholkar and blessed him in his efforts. Baba said, “Let him make a collection of stories and experiences, keep notes and memos; I will help him. He is only an outward instrument. I should write myself my autobiography and satisfy the wishes of my devotees”. Sai devotees read this book, regularly, on special occasions and also as Parayan, a practice of devout of reading of holy texts. The term “Parayana” translates into ‘losing oneself into...” It is also an experienced of devotees that if one reads this book within a set number of days, their desires will be fulfilled. In some instances this has led to a practice of reading this book more in a hurry to complete it within the target time than read with interest and enthusiasm. Advances in mobile technology has only helped such a hurry as we see people hastily reading Sai  Satcharitha off their cell phones and other personal mobile devices.

Baba said, “My business is to give blessings” and his help and guardianship is unconditional. From our end, we read books on Sri Saibaba to know more and experience him in our lives, and reading of Sai Satcharitha is one of the ways to accomplish it. If one would contemplate on this and realize that Saibaba’s help in our lives is not dependent on our reading then one would take time to read any literature on Baba with enthusiasm and “lose oneself into” the love, protection and promise of Saibaba. Such a reading will increases the proximity to Sri Saibaba as one relishes the beauty of his life and stories, like a tasty confection that is savored slowly with joy and appreciation!

CONTRIBUTED ARTICLE: Eternal Quest

It is a fact that in today's world, we do not give much significance to topics that are not of immediate concern to us.  Career, family, health and societal topics prevent us to think beyond these.  With lofty goals, Human beings get more and more entangled in the worldly affairs. Often they neglect the age-old questions such as Who are we? What is our purpose? Who made us? that have plagued society and great thinkers since time immemorial.  A life shattering experience wakes us up to ponder on the questions of our existence.  For some it will be too late to ponder on such questions.

In the past, the quest for existential knowledge has been the realm of thinkers of theology.  We now think and analyze in a scientific method with a well-defined process.  Today, such thinking has permeated all facets of our lives.  Yet, Science is delimiting in its scope and definition.  It can only answer questions about manifested world and processes.  Much is unknown about factors that permeate within our body and the universe around us.  New discoveries and collective thinking enhances Human evolution aiding in a better materialistic life.

Yet, the eternal question remains unanswered. It is this inner quest that leads one to continue to explore.  The works of the ancients got passed down spoken.  They got modified through the iterations they underwent through time.  That does not make them dumb or uneducated.  Lack of formal curriculum or powerful instruments does not mean that they lacked intelligence. Available material confirms they could explain a lot of universal phenomena with accuracy.

As answers to our origin remain elusive, it seems that something drives such knowledge.  Religious philosophers proclaim that this knowledge is inherent in human beings. Under the tutelage of Spiritual Master, a seeker endeavors to unravel this hidden knowledge.

Will everyone of us be able to reach the end of this quest for so called ultimate knowledge and happiness?  It seems, such a question also arose in the mind of one, Damu Anna, a century ago.  In Sai Satcharita (Chapter XXV), he recalls, Once, when I sat at Shri Sai Baba's feet along with many others, one of the questions I had in my mind was, "There are so many crowding to Sai Baba, Do they all get benefit from Him?"  To this, He replied, "Look at the mango tree in blossom.  If all the flowers become fruit, what a splendid crop it would be.  But do they? Most fall off (either as flowers or as unripe fruits) by wind, etc., few remain".

This miracle happened to us before few years. My husband was diagnosed with kidney stone and the doctor had recommended surgery. One day before the surgery one lady came to my house with a big laminated photo of Saibaba and gifted me. I was very delighted and immediately I hung it on the wall. That night my husband told me that he felt white rays coming from the photo and said that Saibaba has crushed his kidney stone. I thought my husband was imagining things out of anxiety. We got him admitted and the doctor said that when he did cystoscope to detect the stone he couldn't locate the stone instead he could see just sand like particles. The stone which had appeared in sonography and X-ray had been crushed. He said it is impossible for such a big stone to get crushed in few days.He said it was a medical miracle. Obviously the surgery was cancelled. I knew it was Sai miracle!.

QUOTATION OF THE WEEK:

“ When I pass way, do not be anxious that I would be absent from you.  You will hear my bones speaking and discussing your welfare.  But remember Me always, believe in Me heart and soul and then, you will be most benefitted. ” - Shri Sai Baba of Shirdi

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

Q: Why should one follow or adhere to the path shown by Shirdi Sai Baba?

A. by Alpa
Shirdi sai baba came to help one attain self realisation. Self realisation is knowing Who am I? Self realisation is knowing that I am not the body, I am not the mind, I am the Soul and to come to this stage of realisation one needs to protect the good qualities that one is born with. By following Baba's teachings and pathway one is  enhancing his/her goodness  such as love, peace, truth, righteousness and non violence. This goodness ultimately takes one's footsteps to self realisation.  A stage where one merges with Sai, the most merciful and blissful.

Sai Baba is whatever we want him to be.He is as deep as ocean and full of knowledge to the wise seeker,He is the kind Father who picks up his children when they fall down and gently wipe away their tears and bring peace to them.He does not want any puja or mantra or other rites. All He wants from us is Faith in His words and patience to wait for His Grace. He was and is all to all human beings and non humans as well.he is our very existence and there is no God but He.We are lucky to be born as humans and to have a SathGuru like our mother Sai. Let us spend every moment of our life, following His words and spreading His message of love.

A. by Dr.Sumathi Sundaram
We all as part of a role play in the worldly existence need a guidance and a Guru to lead us in a positive manner. I have been following to Shirdi Sai's teaching for the past 14 years, and have personally seen a tremendous positive change in the route of my life.

Everyday, I read Satcharitra for at least few minutes, and this refreshes my mind and suggests me to follow the only one Principle of have Good Thoughts. He leads us and guides us and with the assurance he give us can help us handle any situation in life. Just, Let Him lead our thoughts and you will feel positivity in you. The Satcharitra, has all the details you need to take an informed decision of why Sai? . Also once we set ourselves to this routine of following the Guru, we do not have to get stressed over anything. He will guide us the right and appropriate way of our mundane existence

As we follow, we also spread without any intention, our positive thoughts which is the way to continue our journey in.
